12/10/12: Made in the USA is and will be a forgotten label.  In fact Union Made will pass away as well.  The State of Michigan, a long time bastion of Unions, is now a right to work state.  The Federal Trade Commission has required that a product advertised as Made in USA meet the criteria “all or virtually all” for that designation or label.  U.S.content must be disclosed on automobiles and textile, wool, and fur products.  Label such as “true American Quality” may be permitted to reflect development and control in USA.  Looking at http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus03-complying-made-usa-standard can be helpful for all the details.  There are no percentages given.

So what will products be labeled?  We already have seen “Assembled in USA”.  I believe we will accurately and justifiably see “Invented in USA”, “Conceived in USA”, “and “Birthed in USA”.  We may see a slight of hand called “Produced in USA” which has at present, no definition.

I think this changes are appropriate, since the future will be American ingenuity and foreign manufacture.
