What is Dr. Lanny Up To?

What am I up to?

“Not always this laid back”
“Not always this laid back”

Thank you for asking. I am asked this question so often. This phase may just be a salutation, but I have learned many have a curiosity about my various endeavors. A blog seemed like the best way to answer this question on a regular basis. In addition, this blog provides a means for me to keep track in an organized fashion of what I am up to.

The purpose is to record and relate what I am up to these days. The information will be in one place for recording memoirs and historical events. It will be a place to document the present and consider the future.
I expect to regularly make entries concerning various categories: physician/surgeon; medical research and development; the golf adventures and Life. You may see a recent post or follow the topic that might interest you.

Let me know what you think as this blog will becomes my “Lectronic Legacy” in what ever time remains.

Answering the frequently asked question (FAQ) of what am I up to now?

A BLOG seemed the best and most efficient means of answering the FAQs on a regular basis.  It might be said that I wear multiple hats or have many interests.  Discovery in medicine will always be the main topic.  However there are other categories; Golf Adventures, Inventions, and some Christian writings.  Hopefully the BLOG will be a format to tell what I am up to in each of these main endeavors.  It seems almost daily there are interesting events; at least to me. Perhaps the events may be of interest to others.

I want to make it clear, I am not retired.  Retirement it is bad for one’s health.  I concluded my clinical practice in 1995, but work regularly in these various endeavors.  I do not see anywhere in the Bible where retirement is to be desired or realized.  I have told my daughters that I will not be speaking at my retirement party.

From time to time I will answer publicly herein those questions that recently surfaced and may be of general interest.  I will not be recording what I had on my hot dog at a ball game, let alone focus on mundane events.

I trust I will accomplish the intended goal of answering “What am I up to?”

Coronavirus History: The Bat Lady

3/16/2020: This is interesting read on the coronavirus origin and a woman who has studied these viruses for a long time.

Coronavirus Update

3/13/2020:  The most significant fact presented at the news conference was the low incidence of positive tests on those with respiratory conditions in Italy.  If I heard correctly, it was 2-3%.  This means that the coronavirus was an infrequent cause of “flu and cold” like symptoms of people seeking testing.

It also has been reported that early testing on ship staff had false positive testing.  This means that they did not at the time have symptoms nor later developed symptoms.  The test reported they had the virus, but no disease symptoms.

Bottom line:  We are still in the learning phase with a pandemic of this new virus.  I think this is a great dress rehearsal should something more severe occur.

Purell Coronavirus Treatment Controversy

3/12/2002:  The FDA has warned Purell to stop marketing their products suggesting they are effective against virus.  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/28/health/purell-fda-ebola-virus.html

That does not mean that the alcohol in Purell will not kill virus, including coronavirus.  The GOJO company, owner of Purell has not made the necessary FDA application supporting the effectiveness against any virus and therefore cannot market it for those uses.   That does not mean that Purell’s alcohol would not work against the coronavirus, they just cannot label it as such under the FDA law.

However, alcohol is an effective hand sanitizer against bacteria and virus.  The only problem is that there is no long lasting anti-microbial effect.

The following is quoted from: https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/contrary-to-false-posts-sanitizer-helpful-against-coronavirus/

“There is sound scientific basis for the effectiveness of alcohol-based hand-sanitizers for inactivation of commonly transmitted bacteria and viruses, especially lipid-enveloped viruses like coronaviruses,” Benhur Lee, a professor of microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told us in an email. “Alcohol-based hand-sanitizers DO work against coronaviruses; this is what is universally recommended by hospital infection control to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS0CoV-2. However, alcohol-based hand-sanitizers complement but do not replace proper hand-washing with soap and water.”

Lee also pointed us to a recent Smithsonian Magazine article, citing multiple sources and scientific papers, that discusses the effectiveness of hand sanitizers. That article, citing Lee, noted that “while soap physically dismantles the envelope using brute force, alcohol changes the envelope’s chemical properties, making it less stable and more permeable to the outside world.”

The article continued: “Alcohol also can penetrate deep into the pathogen’s interior, wreaking havoc on proteins throughout the virus. (Importantly, not all viruses come with outer envelopes. Those that don’t, like the viruses that cause HPV and polio, won’t be susceptible to soap, and to some extent alcohol, in the same way.)”

“Experts recommend working the sanitizer fully over both hands until completely dry.”

In addition, it is best to use a sanitizer that has a reagent that coats the skin and has a longer lasting effect.  For instance, Zoono lasts for 24 hours on the human hands.  www.zoonousa.com

Coronavirus Update

3/12/2020:  The coronavirus outbreak must be taken serious because of the known and especially the unknown.

I have been studying and researching anti microbials for several years resulting in many US patents.

The following was written to an associate in the field.

The coronavirus presents a serious societal and humanitarian health problem.  There is testing, but with known false positives.  The false negatives if they occurred, have not been reported.  There is no present cure or vaccine.
The following is a very good report worthy of one’s attention.
The control of the coronavirus is limited to mitigation and quarantine and societal behavior.
The traditional personal protection is limited to hand washing which is effective, but only removes pathological microbes present at the time and no lasting protection.  Another traditional hand disinfectant is the alcohol based skin disinfectants; i.e Purell, Germ-X.  They are bioactive when wet, but have no lasting protection after drying.  Therefore, they would have to used many times during the day and or night.
It is now known that the coronavirus may remain airborne for long periods of time.  The virus will remain for hours on hard services like door knobs and handles, or chairs and desk tops.  It will attach to walls, floors and ceilings of a room, building or vehicle.  It will attach to machinery or conveyers.
Protective masks will prevent the infected from spreading the virus, but no evidence as yet they protect the unaffected, yet they are popular.  The problem is that any opening in a mask allowing for air to exchange, even the N95 or N99 will allow microbes to pass through.
Therefore there is a need for more effective and extensive preventive measures.
The solution is a disinfectant that coats, yes coats a surface be it body or hard surfaces with crystals.  I have one presently in an EPA application.  However a FDA and EPA approved solution exists.
It is found at Zoonousa.com. It is safe.  It coats the body part or the hard surfaces with a crystal.  The protection on the hands is 24 hours, not 10 seconds.  A property may be fogged with coating that lasts 28 days.  This method and company has been overlooked in US since it is located in New Zealand.  It seems no one in authority realizes such exists.
It does exist.  A preventive crystal coating now exists.  It is irresponsible not to use the latest technology and preventive measures.

Sales Job with 90% commission

3/11/2020:  There is a sales job with a 90% commission.  The sales job is as outlined in Bible in Mark 16:16.  The 90% commission is outlined in Malachi 3: 8-10 where only 10% goes back to the management and the salesperson will not have enough existing room to contain the 90% benefits.
