8/12/21: Another important patent related to the mitigation of COVOD19 was announced today and will be published August 31, 2021. These are the claims.
“ALLOWED CLAIMS
1. (Allowed) An article of protective clothing, comprising:
a fabric; wherein the fabric has been sprayed, coated, or soaked with a solution consisting of protocatechuic acid and a carrier.
2. (Cancelled)
3. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the protocatechuic acid provides an anti-microbial coating.
4. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the protocatechuic acid has a purity of greater than 90%.
5. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the protocatechuic acid is suspended in the carrier.
6. (Cancelled)
7. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the protocatechuic acid is a crystalline solid.
8. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the protocatechuic acid becomes activated by contact with moisture.
9. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the fabric is made of a material selected from linen, cotton, polypropylene, polyester, bamboo and blends of the same.

“11. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 3, wherein the microorganism is selected from the group consisting of C. difficile 9689, P. acnes 6919,
C. prefringens 13124, L. cassei, E. coli 8739, E. coli 43895, S. aureus 33591, S. mutans,
S. pyrogenes, P. aeruginosa 9027, K. pneumonia, MRSE 51625, C. albicans, legionella
43662, and a virus.
12. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 5, wherein the protocatechuic acid is present in the solution in a concentration of at least 25 mM.
13. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 5, wherein the carrier is selected from the group consisting of water, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, glycerol, essential oil, and mixtures or combinations thereof.
14. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 13, wherein the carrier comprises ethanol or isopropyl alcohol.
15. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the article of protective clothing is a facemask.
16. (Allowed) The article of protective clothing according to claim 1, wherein the article of protective clothing is a protective suit configured to cover a person’s head, arms, torso, legs and feet.
17. (Allowed) A method of making an article of protective clothing of claim 1 impregnated with protocatechuic acid comprising:
providing an article of protective clothing;
applying protocatechuic acid to the article of protective clothing; optionally drying the impregnated article of protective clothing; and
optionally reapplying the protocatechuic acid to the article of protective clothing,
wherein the protocatechuic acid elicits an effect selected from the group consisting of”
“inhibiting microorganism growth and inhibiting microorganism survival, thereby protecting a person from exposure to the microorganism.
18. (Allowed) The method of claim 17, wherein applying protocatechuic acid to the article of protective clothing comprises soaking or spraying the article of protective clothing with a solution comprising protocatechuic acid and water or an alcohol selected from isopropyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol.
19. (Allowed) The method of claim 17, wherein the applying protocatechuic acid to the article of protective clothing comprises impregnating the article of protective
clothing with a solid form of the protocatechuic acid.
